the yellow tape portraits

Description
This is a collection of paintings I did directly after my divorce in 2008. The earlier works from this series were a response to how one particular family member reacted to the divorce and the vitriolic comments they left on a yellow tape cassette. Soon, these reactionary paintings transformed to that of a protector against the different obstacles I had to face as a single woman (and mother of three) in this closed society. I wanted the paintings to be utilitarian, and I wanted them to be detached from the viewer. I tried to keep them all as uniform as I could without sacrificing too much color and variation in facial features and expression. ThisĀ is my army of women who protected me at one of the most vulnerable periods of my life.
